Blessed by a Name

Various lists of the names of Jesus range all the way to as many as 700 different names and titles. The New Testament alone gives Jesus more than one hundred names and titles. One might ask why there are so many different names of Jesus? In the Biblical times, the Israelites often selected names for children based on character or appearance, i.e. Esau (hairy). Some were named based on some hope or prayer of the parent, as in Zechariah’s name (God has remembered). Often a person’s name would be changed to reflect character or accomplishment. No one name or title of Jesus includes the totality of who He is. The more we know of His names, the more we can understand both His character and His work. Every name He claims is a blessing that He shares. What name/blessing has been yours lately because of who Jesus is?

Join with me this week in remembering these global prayer concerns:
* Pray for families that are in language school in Kiev, Ukraine.
* Pray for missionaries who work with South Asian affinity groups as their budget has been cut in half.
* Pray for ongoing disaster relief in the Philippines.
* Pray for a volunteer team from Georgia working with the Lenca of Honduras next week.
* Mary that Mary (Russia) would find a stateside prayer advocate who would send out her prayer updates for. If interested let me know and I will connect you with Mary.

I recently found a website that has an online Bible study on the names of God. Research has already been done for you.
