The Quality of the Race

My Aunt, Lucille Gilliam, was ninety-three years old. I conducted her graveside service last Saturday. One of her favorite passages of Scripture was Hebrews 12:1-2, “Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus . . . who for the joy that was set before Him, endured the cross . . . and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Her long life of faithfulness to God reminded me that the “race” is sometimes a sprint and sometimes a marathon, but whatever the length of the race, the quality of it is determined by how well one practices, “looking unto Jesus.” Her “race” is now complete and with the ability to look “unto Jesus” forever, her “joy” is eternally “before” her. Heaven gets more attractive with the death of each saint. How well is your race going this week?

Join me in remembering these global concerns in prayer:
• Pray for Ron as he and Kari return from Kenya to the states for medical reasons.
• Pray for Steve and April as well as for Melinda and Russell as the two families begin their new assignments in Prague, Czech Republic.
• Pray for numerous church starting efforts across Canada.
• Pray for Kids Clubs being held in the Ukraine this week.
