Celebrate or Speculate?
Last week we heard that Osama bin Laden was dead and with no proof of a dead body, people celebrated. Three weeks ago (Easter), we heard (again) that Jesus Christ died and the tomb was empty (no body) and people speculated. Why do people celebrate when there is no evidence, yet speculate when the evidence is so overwhelming? The documentary evidence of the resurrection of Jesus has never been discredited – either from the Bible or from first century, secular historians. History records the testimony of more than five hundred eye-witnesses who were reported to have seen Christ after he was crucified. A miraculous change came over the disciples from timid, hidden-away, upper-room-gathered-followers, to militant, aggressive proclaimers of a bold message that defied the Roman authorities. Two thousand years later, the Christian church still exist with hundreds of thousands of weekly worshippers testifying to the risen Lord. Plus the fact the Jesus said if He was crucified he would rise again (John 2:19-22). He is either a liar, a lunatic, a legend or He is the risen Lord. Celebrate the unknown or speculate the known? We are strange creatures indeed.
