This, That, and the Other
Every so often, I hear a word or phrase that I haven’t heard in years. Last week, I overheard someone say, “This, that, and the other.” My grandfather used that phrase often. I assumed it just meant, “Whatever.” It was a catch-all phrase, used when nothing else seemed to fit. Google the term and you’ll find: “(idiomatic) Particular items belonging to a large, diverse set, but items of the general kind of item indicated.” Take for instance, the biblical word “love.” Limit your reading to 1 John 4 and you’ll find references to God loving us, us loving God, and us loving each other, with an implication that we ought to also love ourselves – diverse, yet of the same kind. A lot of my days seem to consist of diversity, yet sameness – encounters with different personality types, surrounded with a variety of circumstances, confronted with various levels of stress, etc., yet all within God’s call and direction in my life. I guess life is like that. So, I wish for you a good week, a week filled with this, that, and the other.
Join me as we pray for the following global concerns:
• Pray for the Western Czech Youth Camp on August 3-9.
• Join with Steve in praying for Cambodia in these days following their national elections.
• Pray for Danilo and Catherine. They passed their six month mark in Mexico, with six more months until their move to Colombia!
• Pray for Marilyn and others who serve in Asian countries who celebrate Ghost month in August. This is an oppressive time of the year, with many engaging in traditions to appease the “wandering” ghosts.
