God’s GPS

I finally bought a Global Positioning System (GPS) but the pronunciation was so poor, I could hardly find my way out of my own neighborhood. And when it told me to exit on Azle Ave., but pronounced it “Ah-zel-avie” I gave it to my granddaughter and went back to a map. I do understand the value of a GPS and think it would have saved Moses forty years of hearing his wife say. “Why don’t you just stop and ask someone?” And Abraham could certainly have used one when God told him to pack up and hit the road, and then, and only then, would he know where he was going (Genesis 12: 1-3). I also thought of Abraham finding his way from Beer-Sheba to Mount Moriah with Isaac, two servants, a donkey, wood, fire, and knife. But on Mount Moriah, when God spared the life of Isaac by providing a ram for the sacrifice, Abraham named the place, Jehovah Jireh, meaning, “God provides” (Genesis 22:14). Then it hit me. God has a GPS = God Provides System. With all due respect to the Global Positioning System (and I’ll probably buy another one soon), I like God’s GPS better.

Join me in remembering the following global prayer concerns:
• Pray for the people of Bosnia and Hercegovina as they have experienced the worst natural disaster in their history. Heavy rains have caused major flooding in large parts of the country.
• Pray for Jonathan and Melissa as they endure the hot season in the south Asia country where they serve.
• Pray for the people of Ukraine and those who serve there. May 25 was their presidential election day.
• Pray for summer missionaries and summer interns who are arriving on their summer fields of service.
