Eating and Sinning
I’ve had a long-time food love affair, with authentic Mexican beef Tacos. More recently, I’ve started liking Fish Tacos. High on my non-love affair food list is cabbage. In fact, I only eat cabbage with corn beef. Recently I was in a restaurant where I saw West Coast Fish Tacos on the menu. Being a long way from home and craving Tacos, I ordered the West Coast variety. There were a few small bites of fish and a whole lot of cabbage. I should have reacted with a, “to each his own” opinion, but instead I reacted with a “why don’t they list this in their menu as, Cabbage Tacos with Hidden Fish Bites.” I know you may be wondering how I’m going to make a spiritual lesson out of this experience. I Corinthians 8:13 says, “If food makes my brother stumble, I will never again eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.” Application? I was so outraged at the Cabbage Tacos I continued to complain about it within my group, no doubt causing them to commit the sin/stumble of resentment, or perhaps the “I wish you would just shut-up” sin/stumble. So, lest I cause my brother to stumble, West Coast Fish Tacos will never again sit on my plate. Taco Bell tonight!
Join me in praying for the following global concerns:
• Pray for Eastern Germany. 25 years ago yesterday, November 9, 1989, the Berlin wall that separated East and West Germany fell. Today Eastern Germany is one of the world’s most unreached regions with the gospel.
• Pray for LifeBridge International Church in Panama City, Panama as they search for a new Pastor.
• Pray for Lori as she assists with Ebola Training in churches in Mali, West Africa.
• Conflict continues in some areas of eastern Ukraine, and thousands of displaced persons are still unable to return to their homes. Continue to pray for the churches ministering to those in need.
