Feeling Like a Child Again
It wasn’t that I wanted to feel like a child, again, but it sure was enjoyable for a few minutes. Last week, I had completed my six-month physical exam at my doctor’s office when he told me that lady who does his blood work was out that day, and I needed to go across the street to Lab Corp, located in Cooks’ Children’s Hospital. I parked in front of the hospital and walked in feeling so very young again. I passed office after office with letters on the door indicating services related to children. I was having an incredible nostalgic experience. It was only when the young lady who drew my blood kept calling me, Sir, that the bubble burst. While it was fun feeling young, the reality of my age suddenly reappeared. Anthropologist Ashley-Montagu, said, “The idea is to die young as late as possible.” The quote was popularized when used by former President George W. Bush in the eulogy for his father, President George H. W. Bush. A similar feeling was shared by the Psalmist, who wrote, “I have been young, and now am old . . .” (Psalm 37:25). The wonderful feeling of aging, not experienced by everyone, is only exceeded by occasionally feeling young again.
