Favorite Mother Things
Yesterday was Mother’s Day. If she is still alive, I hope you spent some time with her or at least communicated with her. Like many of you, Mother’s Day is celebrated in memory, for me! My Mother has been in heaven for a long time in earthly measurement. One of the things I remember about my mother was the things she said frequently. Here are three of them:
- Time to get up. Are you going to sleep your life away?
- Nothing much good happens after midnight!
- I don’t care what other mothers say.
And my favorite, spoken every morning as I left the house for school until I went away to college – “Do the best you can, with what you have, where you are, for Jesus’ sake, today.”
Then there are these three favorite Mother’s Day quotes:
- God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers. —Rudyard Kipling
- Moms are life’s number one cheerleaders without uniforms. —Richelle E. Goodrich
- “To the world, you are a mom. To a child, you are the world.” – Unknown
Don’t forget three favorite Mother songs:
- Faith of our mothers, living faith, we will be true to thee till death. Arthur Bardwell Patten
- Mama tried to raise me better, but her pleading I denied
That leaves only me to blame, ’cause mama tried. Merle Haggard - A brand new angel in the choir, and I’m gonna hear her sing . . . I’ve got more to go to Heaven for, than I had yesterday!
And three favorite Scripture verses about Mothers:
- Strength and honor are her clothing; She shall rejoice in time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue isthe law of kindness. Proverbs 31:25-26
- Do not forsake the law of your mother; For they will be a graceful ornament on your head, and chains about your neck. Proverbs 1:8-9
- Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. Exodus 20:12.
