Good Advice. Not So Good Application
Rajneesh Osho was an Indian spiritual leader, and philosopher. I wasn’t reading his writing but came across a quote of his from another writer – “Life is a balance between rest and movement.” A possible solution to being unbalanced comes from a catholic leader, Richard Cushing (who I wasn’t reading either) – “ Always plan ahead. It wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark.” Assuming these two writers were correct, I am both unbalanced and running out of time to plan ahead. I travel once a month to the Rio Grande Valley of Texas to teach pastors and church leaders, I write the scripts and record two Podcast each month, I post “Dr. Dan’s Monday Morning Manna” on social media once a week, I teach a prayer course online for Southwestern Baptist Seminary in the fall, I’m currently serving in my 30th Interim Pastorate, and I’m working on my 29th book. I am a long-time participant in Citizens on Patrol (COPS) in my neighborhood and an active member of the Fort Worth Citizens Police Academy Alumni. Rest? I highly recommend it. I just don’t have much time for it. Planning ahead. I’m not very good at that anymore, either. I like the Psalmist’ strategy better – “Now also when I am old and gray-headed, O God, do not forsake me, Until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to everyone who is to come” (Psalm 71:18).
