Almost

During my college years my future could have made a drastic turn.  A friend and I noticed that there would be minor league baseball tryouts in Arizona, and we decided to drive there in his car and participate. We had no hope of ever playing in the major leagues, but we thought just one summer in the lower minor leagues, living in a host family home, eating lots of baloney sandwiches, and taking long bus rides to the hometowns of other league teams, would be a dream come true for us.  Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, my friend’s car broke down just before our trip, and we spent the summer attending summer school and dreaming of what might have been. By the following summer’s tryout camps, our focus had turned to Seminary enrollment, and a future in ministry.  At some point during my college days, I added a new life verse(s) to my previous one.  Now that I think about it, that may have occurred during this almost drastic turn of events.  Proverbs.3:5-6 says that if we “trust in the Lord,” lean not on our own understanding, and in all our ways acknowledge Him,  God, “will direct . . . (our) paths.”  We did and He did, and minor league baseball almost lost two possible all-stars. Well, maybe not that big a loss, but at least I got the “almost” part correct.  Do you have any “almost” occasions in your past where God directed your path?
