Celebrating Independence
This week Americans will celebrate our independence on July 4. While we are independent from tyranny, we must remain dependent on the Trinity – God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. For my non-American readers, while we have no desire to wrap the Gospel in red, white, and blue, we do invite you to celebrate with us. Here are a few quotes to assist in the celebration.
· “It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists, but by Christians, not on religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ. For that reason alone, people of other faiths have been afforded freedom of worship here.” -Patrick Henry
· “God bless America, land that I love Stand beside her and guide her Through the night with a light from above From the mountains to the prairies To the oceans white with foam God bless America, my home sweet home.” Irving Berlin
· “The essence of America, that which really unites us, is not ethnicity or nationality or religion. It is an idea, and what an idea it is — that you can come from humble circumstances and do great things.” — Condoleezza Rice
· “The framers of our Constitution meant we were to have freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.” Billy Graham
· ‘If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under.’ – Ronald Reagan
· “America! God shed His grace on thee And crown thy good with brotherhood From sea to shining sea!” Katharine Lee Bates
· “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” Psalm 33:12
