Ducks on the Pond

As I passed the lake near my house last week and saw a large number of ducks, it reminded me of two things.  First, another well-used piece of advice from my High School Baseball Coach – “Ducks on the pond.”   In baseball terminology, that means there are runners on base and the batter has the opportunity of knocking them in for a score.  In life, the term means all the possibilities are in place for you to succeed.  The second thing I remembered was that the deadline for my next book is coming up at the end of this week – July 31. I have compiled a book of advice, with one piece of advice per day.  I’ve invited friends to share advice they received or gave, and many have shared. With the publishing deadline literally hours away, there is still time for you to share and be included in the book. Just let me know if you have some advice to share and I will send you the guidelines (dcrawford@swbts.edu).  Just so you know the name of the book comes from another well-used phrase from my High School Baseball Coach – “Don’t Die on Third.”  Look for it on Amazon in a few months.   My goal in compiling such a book is for the reader to say, as Samuel said to Abigail, “Blessed is your advice” (1 Samuel 25:33).
