Things Mothers Say

Yesterday was Mother’s Day. Mothers have things they say to their children that go beyond their family.  Some are even universal and eternal.  For instance, regardless of my complaint, my own mother would always tell me, “It will be better tomorrow.” When I have shared that, others have agreed that their mother said the same or a similar thing.  In honor and in memory of mothers, here are a few things most mothers said at some point in the life of their children.

  • Because I said so, that’s why.”
  • I’m not asking you, I’m telling you.”
  • Were you born in a barn?”
  • Don’t cry over spilt milk.”
  • One day you will thank me.”
  • You got that from your father,”
  • Money doesn’t grow on trees,

Then there is the reason mother’s gave middle names to their kids.  I knew when I heard my middle name used, I needed to listen closely.  I was either in trouble, or there was something important that i needed to know.  And we loved every minute of it. “Her children rise up and call her blessed” (Proverbs 31:28).  Happy and Blessed Belated Mother’s Day.
