Football and Faith
Last Saturday there were three major football games on TV. The SEC, the Big 10 and the Big 12 all had games that helped determine conference championships. I got home in time to see the end of one and flipped the channels to watch the other two who played at the same time. I missed most of the early game because of a conflict. At twelve noon, the Weatherford Lions game began twenty miles from home. My great grandson, Crawford Graham Kennedy is the Lion Quarterback. Never mind that the team is made up of seven-year-olds, it was the most important game of the day. He passed for one touchdown and ran for another score. By the way, he also excels in basketball and baseball. He is quite an athlete. I’d like to claim DNA, but I would have to share that claim with his Dad, a college football player and present Coach of the Lions. I wonder if I could at least claim, Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Starting sports so early in life could cause burn-out about the time he hits his prime. Fortunately, he also loves his church activities, enjoys reading his Bible, and praying every night with his parents, and faith has no burn-out feature.
