My web site, which includes this Blog, was compromised again this past week. This has become all too frequent. In the words of the one hosting my web site, “I have never had any of my ‘money making’ sites compromised. But yours and another Christian site have been the target of numerous attacks!” I am…
Yesterday was Father’s Day. For sixty-one years I was blessed with a wonderful, earthly father. It’s hard to believe that he died nearly eight years ago, thirty minutes before my birthday. In many ways, he was my best friend – certainly when it came to talking church or sports. In fact, one of my most…
Events of recent days brought back to my memory a hymn from my youth. Anyone old enough to remember: “Loyalty, loyalty, loyalty for Christ?” Whether it’s a university’s athletic department switching conferences for the almighty TV dollar, a spouse switching partners for the lure of youth or status, or an institution cancelling the insurance premium…
Sixty-six years ago yesterday a military operation began that committed more than a million allies to combat, and caused 10% of them to become casualties, in order to liberate a people. I saw very little in the newspaper about D-Day; heard very little on the television news, and heard nothing on the radio. I saw…
I attended my Grandson, Price’s Kindergarten Graduation last Thursday night. Student answers to three questions were shared with the audience as they received their diplomas. What do you want to be when you grow up? Price: “A Paleontologist.” What’s your biggest wish? Price: “To own 7 rifles, 2 shotguns and a pistol.” What do you…
My 50th High School class reunion is history. It was similar to the stock market with gains and losses: weight gained, hair lost. Few looked the same. In fact when I entered I thought I had the wrong group. It looked more like a Branson, Missouri tour group than my classmates. Thanks to Facebook, and…
There’s a lot of anxiety involved in attending a reunion. This coming weekend is my 50th High School class reunion. I’m anxious that others will have changed so much they might not recognize me. I’m anxious someone might look at me and ask, “What happened to you?” I’m anxious someone might remember that I owe…
Before it becomes obsolete, let me say that my cell phone is a lot like the Christian life. When I tried to use it the other day the signal was low and when someone did answer on the other end, I would quickly lose them. Then I remembered! I forgot to re-charge the battery. At…
I’m glad man was not created until the sixth day of the creative week. Imagine how life would have been when “the earth was without form, and void (Gen. 1:2). I’m having trouble even imagining that as I write this from Whistler, in the beautiful, snow-covered mountains of British Columbia, Canada. While there is God-created…
Last week we celebrated Earth Day – a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. Of the celebration of the first Earth Day, “American Heritage Magazine” proclaimed, “. . . on April 22, 1970, Earth Day was held, one of the most remarkable happenings in the history of democracy. . .”…
