Most of the time, I succeed at what I plan. However, my preparation occasionally exceeds my performance. Has that ever happened to you? It happened to Jehoshaphat, when he was king of Judah. On one occasion, he tried to live up to the reputation of Solomon, who, as king of Israel, built ships and sent them to Ophir three times each year for gold. Yet when Jehoshaphat attempted to do the same, the ships never made it out of the harbor. They were safe in the harbor, but ships are never built for the harbor. They are built for the open waters. 1 Kings 22:48 tells the sad result, \u201cJehoshaphat made merchant ships to go to Ophir for gold; but they never sailed, for the ships were wrecked at Ezion Geber\u201d – the port where they were built. As soon as they sailed, they were broken to pieces against the rocks near the harbor. Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. wrote: \u201cWe must sail sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it – but sail we must, and not drift, nor lie at anchor.\u201d So, make your plans and set sail, praying that your preparation and performance will resemble Solomon more than Jehoshaphat.<\/p>\n
