Every so often, I hear a word or phrase that I haven\u2019t heard in years. Last week, I overheard someone say, \u201cThis, that, and the other.\u201d My grandfather used that phrase often. I assumed it just meant, \u201cWhatever.\u201d It was a catch-all phrase, used when nothing else seemed to fit. Google the term and you\u2019ll find: \u201c(idiomatic) Particular items belonging to a large, diverse set, but items of the general kind of item indicated.\u201d Take for instance, the biblical word \u201clove.\u201d Limit your reading to 1 John 4 and you\u2019ll find references to God loving us, us loving God, and us loving each other, with an implication that we ought to also love ourselves \u2013 diverse, yet of the same kind. A lot of my days seem to consist of diversity, yet sameness – encounters with different personality types, surrounded with a variety of circumstances, confronted with various levels of stress, etc., yet all within God\u2019s call and direction in my life. I guess life is like that. So, I wish for you a good week, a week filled with this, that, and the other.<\/p>\n
