She kept saying, \u201cThere\u2019s greatness in this class.\u201d Looking around my sixth grade classroom, I concluded she must be talking about me. I have no idea if anyone in that class accomplished greatness, but my sixth grade teacher motivated me to seek excellence in all my endeavors. So, when my first book was published I dedicated it to her. A few years later I received a phone call from her son-in-law. She had seen my book and assigned him to find me. Confirming me as the correct person, he put her on the phone. A feeble ninety year-old voice said, \u201cI told my doctor I couldn\u2019t die till I found you, and thanked you for remembering me.\u201d After her long teaching career I was sure that many former students had returned to thank her, and I expressed that to her on the phone. Her reply broke my heart. \u201cNo\u201d she said, \u201cYou\u2019re the first one.\u201d The Bible says, \u201cIn everything give thanks\u201d (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Surely that includes the influence of sixth grade teachers. Is there someone in your life that you need to thank? You may be the only one who does.<\/p>\n
