Time passes slowly when you\u2019re waiting on an airplane departure, especially when a mechanical issue has caused a four-hour delay. The airline kindly requested that we be seated and have patience. They did offer a meal voucher since they were keeping us past the noon hour, a welcome offer since I had arisen at 4:30am and consumed a very early breakfast in order to be on time at the airport for the beginning of my flight delay. Mid-way through the delay a fire alarm sounded and an announcement was made to remain in our seats until further instructions. Where else was I to go with my plane under re-construction? Once the mechanical issue was fixed we were further delayed because the flight crew had not yet arrived. I wondered where they had been during the four hour delay. Finally, four hours and forty minutes late, we pushed away from the gate and were on our way. The tempers of the passengers leveled off at about the same time as did the aircraft. Somewhere out of the blue, in the midst of my frustration, came a reminder of the \u201cfruit of the Spirit\u201d in Galatians 5, especially fruit #4 \u2013 \u201clongsuffering\u201d or as some translations have it, \u201cpatience\u201d (Gal. 5:22, NASB). What an interesting word for a patience-stretching flight delay. Remember that word during your next patience-needing time.<\/p>\n
