I was recently in a ministry planning meeting in another country where the percentage of believers is low and resources even lower. One of the leaders exclaimed, \u201cWe do what we have to do, to get done what needs to get done.\u201d That\u2019s a philosophy of life with which I am very familiar. My grandfather came from a poor family and only completed an elementary school education before going to work. By retirement, he had owned a grocery store, a service station, and a real estate office; partnered with a friend to build and sell houses, and served as the post master for his town. He worked long hours six days a week. After church and lunch on Sunday, he spent private time at the store, \u201cdoing the books.\u201d His philosophy of life was, \u201cWe work by the job, and not by the hour.\u201d Most of my growing-up years were spent around workaholics who were perfectionists \u2013 a challenging life with a tough learning curve. But I knew exactly what the leader meant about getting things done. I also was exposed to this lifestyle at church, where I learned, \u201cWhatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord (Colossians 3:23) and based on John 9:4, we sang, \u201cWork, for the night is coming, Work through the sunny noon; Fill brightest hours with labor, Rest comes sure and soon. Give every flying minute, Something to keep in store; Work, for the night is coming, When man works no more.\u201d In today\u2019s language, \u201cGet \u2018er done!\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
