The brackets have been set. It\u2019s time for \u201cMarch Madness\u201d \u2013 that wonderful season of the year when college basketball dominates office and coffee shop discussions.\u00a0 It is a time for the thrill of victory as well as for the agony of defeat.\u00a0 Underdogs excel. Bracket busters abound.\u00a0 However, something else dominates the news.\u00a0 While many of us, me included, enjoy \u201cMarch madness,\u201d much of the world is enduring March sadness. There is a war in Ukraine.\u00a0 Thousands have been killed. Millions have been displaced.\u00a0 Cities have been destroyed, including hospitals, schools, senior adult apartments, and places of worship.\u00a0 For most of us, it is a tragic war far away.\u00a0 We grieve for those who hurt.\u00a0 But we feel helpless.\u00a0 I was once asked to lead a conference entitled, \u201cWhen All Else Fails . . . Pray.\u201d\u00a0 I didn\u2019t much like the title of the conference, but today it seems appropriate.\u00a0 Brave resistance, as admirable as it is, has not stopped the damage. A mad man continues to give the world March sadness\u00a0 It is time to pray.\u00a0 During World War II, Prime Minister Winston Churchill was advised to organize a group of people who would pray for peace every night at a specific time.\u00a0 After a very short time, the bombing ceased, and peace was restored.\u00a0 While skeptics try to prove that prayer did not cause the bombing to stop, they are unable to prove that prayer didn\u2019t cause the stoppage. It\u2019s time to pray for peace in Ukraine. In Jeremiah 33:3 God said, \u201cCall to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and\u00a0mighty things, which you do not know.\u201d My friend Linda, a SWBTS graduate and career missionary in eastern Ukraine, has initiated a global, \u2018round the clock, prayer strategy for peace in Ukraine.\u00a0 My time is 9pm (U.S. Central Daylight Time).
