In last week\u2019s Manna, I focused on Jonah.\u00a0 This week, I want to focus on the fish.\u00a0 God called Jonah to go to Nineveh.\u00a0 Jonah said, \u201cNo, I think I\u2019d rather go to Joppa, get on a boat and go to Tarshish.\u201d God could have stopped Jonah in his tracks, but He let him go. \u00a0Sometimes God lets us disobey but protects us in our disobedience until we agree to follow.\u00a0 When Jonah was thrown into the sea, the Bible describes the sea as in \u201ca mighty tempest\u201d and adds the ship was \u201cabout to be broken up\u201d (Jonah 1:4).\u00a0 Obviously, when Jonah was thrown into the sea, his life was in danger.\u00a0 That\u2019s when God \u201cprepared a great fish to swallow Jonah\u201d ( Jonah 2:17). That fish was God\u2019s protection for Jonah, until he was ready to go to Nineveh.\u00a0 With Jonah inside the great fish, God said, \u201cHow do you like me now?\u201d To which, Jonah said, \u201call things considered, I think I prefer Nineveh.\u201d \u00a0Safely on the dry ground, \u201cJonah arose and went to Nineveh\u201d (Jonah 3:3).\u00a0 At the age of fifteen, sensing God\u2019s call on my life, I decided to at least attempt to be a professional baseball player.\u00a0 In the midst of my disobedience, God prepared a nine-month stay in a hospital bed, while I recovered from a broken second vertebrae of my neck and decided to follow His call.\u00a0 When God calls, the call remains in effect even as we disobey.\u00a0 Close by every rejection of God’s call is a large fish (or a hospital bed), waiting to be God’s protection until we respond correctly.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
