I don\u2019t watch many movies, at least not in a theater.\u00a0\u00a0Most of the movies I\u2019ve see have been on airplanes or in hotel rooms. I\u2019m not sure where I was when I first saw, \u201cA Field of Dreams\u201d nor am I sure how many times I\u2019ve watched it. This much I know for sure – every time I watch it, I shed a few tears.\u00a0\u00a0Were it just about baseball, it would be one of my favorites, but it is more.\u00a0\u00a0It is about fathers and sons and baseball. Before God called my Dad into the ministry, he was a semi-pro baseball player in Central Texas. Thus, \u201chaving a catch\u201d with my Dad was more than a thrill.\u00a0\u00a0Having him attend my games and critique me following, was something I treasured.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cIf you build it they will come\u201d was a great line for building a baseball stadium.\u00a0\u00a0For a church, not so much.\u00a0\u00a0We are not called to build so they will come.\u00a0\u00a0We are called to go, and as they come, we build to minister to them.\u00a0\u00a0The repeated word from Jesus was, \u201cgo\u201d (Matthew 28:19), not \u201cbuild,\u201d So the movie does not have a primary church application. It\u2019s still one of my all-time favorites.\u00a0\u00a0Last week I watched the annual major league game played in the new stadium on the grounds of the movie.\u00a0\u00a0It brought back memories – and yes, a few tears.<\/p>\n
