{"id":3170,"date":"2022-08-21T06:31:34","date_gmt":"2022-08-21T11:31:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/discipleallnations.org\/members\/?p=3170"},"modified":"2022-08-21T06:31:34","modified_gmt":"2022-08-21T11:31:34","slug":"life-goes-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/discipleallnations.org\/members\/2022\/08\/life-goes-on\/","title":{"rendered":"Life Goes On"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hard to believe, but this month it will be fifteen years since I retired from the faculty of Southwestern Baptist Seminary.\u00a0 At that time, I declared that I was retiring from a position, not from a calling.\u00a0 Since then, I have served eight churches as Interim Pastor, made at least three dozen trips to metro Vancouver to lead Vision Tours and mentor younger ministers, written six books, co-authored one, and compiled two. I also retired saying I planned to watch more ball games and play more golf.\u00a0 The time spent in the sun at ballgames resulted in eight skin cancer surgeries and the golf caused multiple trips to spine specialists.\u00a0 Too much Mexican food and Bar B.Q. caused the removal of my gall bladder, and a few more physical issues not worth mentioning.\u00a0 At the age of eighty, I accepted a new job as Administrative Consultant for the Valley Baptist Missions Education Center.\u00a0 All in all, it\u2019s been an exciting, challenging, chapter in my life\u2019s story.\u00a0 I\u2019ve got four quotes stuck on the bookshelf in my home office. (1) \u201cIt\u2019s a mere moment in a man\u2019s life between an All-Star Game and an Old-Timers Game.\u201d\u00a0 Vin Scully. My response: There are days I\u2019m glad when it\u2019s my time to bat and other days when I feel like I\u2019m playing extra innings.\u00a0 (2) \u201cHow old would you be if you didn\u2019t know how old you are?\u201d\u00a0 Satchel Paige. \u00a0My answer: It all depends on how I feel when I wake up in the morning. (3) \u201cHow did it get so late so soon?\u00a0 Its night before its afternoon. December is here before its June.\u00a0 My goodness how the time has flewn.\u00a0 How did it get so late so soon?\u201d\u00a0 Dr. Seuss. (4) \u201cNow also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, do not forsake me, until I declare Your strength to thi<em>s<\/em>\u00a0generation, Your power to everyone\u00a0who\u00a0is to come.\u201d Psalm 71:18.
