Whether your memory lapses are \u201csenior moments\u201d or \u201cintellectual interruptions\u201d or \u201closing the train of thought\u201d or \u201cdrawing a blank\u201d as my grandfather used to call it, the key is to re-focus. The mind is a wonderful gift from God, but it\u2019s a lot like that machine at the Cleaners that takes my shirts around and around the building \u2013 when a shirt is missed, I must wait for it to come back around. Thoughts are similar, but the older one gets the slower that machine runs. The Bible tells us to use our minds to focus on \u201cwhatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report . . .\u201d So, while I\u2019m thinking about it, I want to \u201cthink on these things\u201d (Phil. 4:8).
