{"id":3442,"date":"2024-01-28T06:22:46","date_gmt":"2024-01-28T12:22:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/discipleallnations.org\/members\/?p=3442"},"modified":"2024-01-28T06:22:46","modified_gmt":"2024-01-28T12:22:46","slug":"underdogs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/discipleallnations.org\/members\/2024\/01\/underdogs\/","title":{"rendered":"Underdogs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Underdogs<\/p>\n<p>Before Dallas had the Cowboys or Houston had the Oilers, back when I was a treen-anger growing up in Houston, I was a Green Bay Packers fan. \u00a0 Why? \u00a0From childhood I was told I would be attending Baylor University, so I grew up loving the green and gold. Then I chose to attend elsewhere, and Dallas and Houston secured football teams. \u00a0The effect of this love of green and gold made me a supporter of the underdog. \u00a0Also, my own football career, such as it was, ended with an accident-related broken second vertebrae of the neck, but prior to that, I always played on an underdog team. According to Wikipedia, an \u201cunderdog is a person or group in a competition, usually in sports and creative works, who is largely expected to lose.\u201d Perhaps all of this is why I was so open to being a Jesus follower. \u00a0I was a no one, until The One, made me a someone. \u00a0A few verses were helpful to me in those underdog days:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cI can do all things through Him who strengthens me.\u201d (Ephesians 4:13)<\/li>\n<li>\u201cSo the last will be first, and the first last.\u201d (Matthew 20:16)<\/li>\n<li>\u201cBut he said, \u201cWhat is impossible with man is possible with God.\u201d (Luke 18:27)<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u201cIf God is on our team,\u00a0who can play against us?\u201d (Romans 8:31, from a translation I can no longer find.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So, all you underdogs, it\u2019s time to overcome.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Underdogs Before Dallas had the Cowboys or Houston had the Oilers, back when I was a treen-anger growing up in Houston, I was a Green Bay Packers fan. \u00a0 Why? \u00a0From childhood I was told I would be attending Baylor University, so I grew up loving the green and gold.
