In my life the answer would be “many” times. It may be a song from my childhood or youth days in which case, it is classified as an old song. It may be a contemporary song that only recently has become a part of my memory bank of songs. The strange thing for me is that I am not a musician. I have a family full of them and many of my best friends are musicians, but not me. In my teenage years, my mother bought me a trombone but the teacher quit after only a few “lessons” with me. While I can carry a tune, I just can’t release it very well. So here’s my dilemma – I love music and find that it is most often music that makes my day, but I’m not musically inclined. That’s why I got so excited reading Ephesians 5:19. I had read the verse before, several times, but never caught the right word – “speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” In looking through a number of commentaries, apparently none of the commentary writers caught that word either, since most of the commentary related to defining and distinguishing between “psalms and hymns and spiritual songs.” But I don’t need a commentary to set me free. Since I speak far better than I sing, I now can “speak” a song and not worry about anyone quitting on me. Would you join me in “speaking” a song to someone this week?

How many down times have been uplifted with a song?
