Last week Joanne and I celebrated sixty-one years of \u201cI do\u2019s.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Included in those sixty-one were a few \u201cI dang sure do\u201d years as well as a few \u201cI don\u2019t know why, I just do\u201d years. Then there were the \u201cRinky dinky do\u201d years and the \u201cDoodle de, do, da\u201d years,\u201d and a few \u201cWhoop de dos.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Throw in a \u201cWhy do You stand afar off\u201d years (Psalm 10:1).\u00a0\u00a0The early years of marriage were the \u201cI do\u201d what she says years.\u00a0\u00a0The years when we had babies in the house were the \u201cDo not rest day or night\u201d years\u201d (Revelation 4:8).\u00a0\u00a0Then there were the teen-agers in the house years – better known as the \u201cfor richer or poorer\u201d years. Finally, we made it to the \u201cempty nest\u201d years – with a question – \u201cIf this nest is empty, who owns all this stuff left behind.\u201d Then the long awaited, middle adult years, when we realized the wedding vow, \u201cto have and to hold\u201d meant both accused the other of snoring.\u00a0\u00a0Finally, we hit the grandparent and great grandparent years.\u00a0\u00a0With the question, \u201cWhy didn\u2019t we have these first\u201d? And now, the golden years and we still do.\u00a0\u00a0To paraphrase the poet, Robert Browning, \u201cGrow old along with me . . . and\u00a0\u00a0let\u2019s see what all Medicare covers.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Happy sixty-first, Joanne.
