A lot of things are happening earlier these days.\u00a0\u00a0Last week I attended my great-grandson\u2019s football game.\u00a0\u00a0He is in the first grade and its flag football, but they have cheerleaders, so it\u2019s almost real.\u00a0\u00a0My first year to play football was in the fifth grade.\u00a0\u00a0We wore uniforms with shoulder pads and helmets, and we tackled. \u00a0Other than family, I don\u2019t remember any cheerleaders.\u00a0\u00a0We ran a single wing offense, and I was the wing-back.\u00a0\u00a0The tailback was a kid named Curtis.\u00a0\u00a0He was our only chance of winning, so he ran with the ball on nearly every play.\u00a0\u00a0On one play however, he lateraled the ball to me and the other team was so shocked no one tackled me.\u00a0\u00a0I made a touchdown.\u00a0\u00a0Well, almost.\u00a0\u00a0A kid named Gene was offsides, so the play was called back. A few years later I broke the second vertebrae of my neck, and my football career was over.\u00a0\u00a0Hopefully my great-grandson will have a longer career – if he wants it.\u00a0\u00a0Last year, when he graduated from kindergarten into first grade, his principal read his bio and told the audience that when Crawford Graham Kennedy grows up he wants to be a monster truck driver.\u00a0\u00a0So much for football. Back to my original point – a lot of things are happening earlier these days.\u00a0\u00a0Even as we remember the way it used to be, let\u2019s celebrate the way it is.\u00a0\u00a0I\u2019m glad Crawford is playing football in first grade, as well as attending monster truck rallies.\u00a0\u00a0The only thing I really wish for his future is that he becomes all God wants him to be.\u00a0\u00a0Then and only then will he be truly happy and fulfilled.\u00a0\u00a0He hasn\u2019t asked me for a life-verse, but if he does, I\u2019ve got one for him – \u201cLet\u00a0no one\u00a0despise\u00a0your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity\u201d (1 Timothy 4:12).\u00a0\u00a0Let all the cheerleaders, \u201cstand up and holler.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
