Every morning, I step on the scales to be sure I am not gaining weight.\u00a0 At mealtimes I am conscious of the calories I consume, so I don\u2019t count too\u00a0 many.\u00a0 Every day I count the pills I take so I don\u2019t get the wrong number at the wrong time.\u00a0 When walking I look for shortcuts, so I don\u2019t count too many steps. At the end of every month, I count the money I have in the bank, so I don\u2019t overspend.\u00a0 I travel a lot, so I count the miles to be sure they match the gallons of gas in the tank.\u00a0 I count the days between all kinds of appointments and commitments. Thinking of counting, \u00a0Johnson Oatman wrote more than 3000 hymns, but none, more fitting for me today than one written in the late 1800s. \u00a0\u201cCount your many blessings, name them one by one. Count your blessings, see what God has done! Count your blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done.\u201d When I do count my blessings, I am always surprised at what God has done. The Psalmist said, \u201cI will bless Your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless You\u201d (Psalm 145:2). I need to spend more time counting my blessings and less time counting the other things in my life.<\/p>\n
