I was sitting in my recliner with the footrest up, totally relaxed, watching the end of the evening news, when all of a sudden, the lights went off.\u00a0 The power was out.\u00a0 With the wind blowing outside, I knew that somewhere a limb had rubbed against a transformer and the neighborhood was without power. It had happened before. \u00a0I decided to just go on to bed, knowing that the power would return sometime during the night, but I had a problem. You may now envision me getting out of my recliner with the powerless footrest still in its upright position.\u00a0 Nevertheless, I finally got out of the chair and into my bed. \u00a0Before I fell asleep, I had a spiritual moment, brought on by the idea of power.\u00a0 I recalled the words of Jesus just before His ascension into heaven, \u201cTarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high\u201d (Luke 24:49).\u00a0 Then the physical lack of power led to a spiritual truth \u2013 we are sometimes powerless.\u00a0 We wait.\u00a0 We \u201ctarry.\u201d We make do in our own powerless condition.\u00a0 Finally, just as the power in my house returned, in His time, the Lord empowers us again.\u00a0 \u201cEndued\u201d with His power, we go forward. Next time you find yourself powerless, do the best you can in your own power, with the assurance that in due time, the Lord will empower you again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
