After last week I am more convinced than ever that people are desperate to communicate with deity. I visited a Hindu Center and watched as people bowed to statues of animals and flowers, worshipping the created, but not the Creator. I visited a Buddhist Temple and watched people light incense to burn in tribute to overweight images of their deity. I visited a Sikh Temple and watched them put their sacred writing to bed so it could rest. I visited the Muslim Mosque and watched them bow toward Mecca is hopes someone in that direction would hear and respond. One thing I saw in common. Each \u201cworshipper\u201d had some means of attracting the attention of their deity, a bell, a drum, a call, chant – \u201cwaking them up to get their attention\u201d as one adherent explained. I walked away from each with mixed feelings \u2013 sorrow for those who walk in darkness and joy that I do not have to awaken my God for worship, for He \u201cneither slumbers nor sleeps\u201d (Ps. 121:4) I also felt that I and my prayer team were the only ones in the various places of worship talking to a deity that was actually listening.<\/p>\n
