Last week we celebrated Earth Day – a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth\u2019s environment. Of the celebration of the first Earth Day, \u201cAmerican Heritage Magazine\u201d proclaimed, \u201c. . . on April 22, 1970, Earth Day was held, one of the most remarkable happenings in the history of democracy. . .\u201d Sometimes we celebrate the right things for the wrong reasons. Long before the modern Earth Day was celebrated, the Bible had a lot to say about the earth:
\n\u2022 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1-3.
\n\u2022 The earth is the Lord\u2019s, and the fullness thereof. Psalm 24:1.
\n\u2022 O earth, earth, earth, Hear the word of the Lord. Jeremiah 22:29.
\n\u2022 Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Matthew 5:4-6
\n\u2022 At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth. Philippians 2:9-11
\n\u2022 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Revelation 21:1-3
\nHmmmm! Seems to me we ought to celebrate Earth Day every day and Christians ought to lead the celebration. Happy Earth Day!<\/p>\n

\n\u2022 Pray for those who continue to recover from earthquakes in Haiti, Chile and China.
