A television talk-show guest was asked to share his thirty-second advice with the audience. \u201cLive the Golden Rule\u201d he said. Then he added (to fill up his thirty seconds), \u201cIf everyone just lived the Golden Rule, it\u2019d be a better world.\u201d No doubt. But my question is, can \u201ceveryone\u201d live the Golden Rule? For those who don\u2019t remember, the Golden Rule comes from Jesus\u2019 Sermon on the Mount, \u201cwhatever you want men to do to you, do also to them\u201d (Matthew 7:12). It also has some background in Obadiah 1:15, \u201cAs you have done, it shall be done to you.\u201d Whether the words come from the prophet\u2019s preaching on the judgment to come or from the Messiah\u2019s standard of discipleship, they are given to believers. Is it then possible for a non-believer to live the Golden Rule of believers? How can one treat others right if they themselves are not right? How can one who does not accept the grace-treatment of our God, treat others with grace? Some Mondays my Memo is a nice, warm, fuzzy thought designed to jump-start your week. Today, it is something to think about, reflect on, and digest for a while. And while you\u2019re at it, what would you share if you had thirty seconds with an audience?<\/p>\n
