Elbert Lafayette Crawford was my great grandfather, whom I never knew. He was from Mississippi as was his wife. They married in Ft. Smith, Arkansas and moved to central Texas where she died at the age of 38. He was a farmer in Bell County, Texas where he died and was buried in the Wilson Valley Cemetery of Little River, Texas. Here is the sad part. For some strange reason I decided this week to find his grave. I was told by a cemetery historian, \u201cWe do not have a grave with a Crawford headstone. We have so many graves in our old section of the cemetery without a headstone, we know they are there because we have found death information that states they were buried in Wilson Valley Cemetery and E.L. Crawford is one of those.\u201d My great grandfather, buried in an unmarked grave, known only to God. What was he like? Would we have enjoyed each other? Did I inherit any of his characteristics? Was he a believer? Is he in heaven today? Jesus spoke of what my great grandfather and I have in common: \u201cThe hour is coming in which all who are in the graves (I might add: marked and unmarked graves) will hear His voice\u201d (John 5:28). Someday, I\u2019ll know more. For now . . . an unmarked grave in a central Texas cemetery.<\/p>\n
