Do you take the high road or the low? Do you turn right or left? Isaiah understood: “Your ears shall hear a word behind you saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it.’ Whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left” (Isaiah 30:21). This “word behind” is thought by some to be an illustration of teachers, who stand behind their students, to guide, teach, and instruct; by others, of shepherds following their flocks, who, when they observe any of the sheep going out of the way, call them back; or to travelers, who, coming to a place where there are several ways, and inclining to turn to the right or left, are called to by persons behind them, directed in the right way. The voice behind the “word” is obviously the voice of God. Sometimes, an answer simply poses an additional question. Yes, God will tell you which way to go, but how do you hear from God? Basically God speaks through His Word, the Bible, not in contrast to what He has already said, but in harmony. God speaks through other people, trusted friends who walk with Him. God speaks through circumstances. In fact, sometimes the only way God can communicate with us is by allowing something to happen in our lives, that gets our attention. Finally, God speaks through what the Bible calls, “a still, small voice” (1 Kings 19:12), a reference to God’s voice inside of us that gives us peace in decision making. So, listen. God is speaking. Which way do you go?

Join me this week in remembering the following global concerns:
• Pray for Andrea as she experiences her first stateside time in more than three years.
• Pray for Tom while he is in Madagascar encouraging story crafting teams there.
• Pray for Mary as she leaves her assignment in Novosibirsk, Russia this Thursday, to fly to Israel for a couple of weeks, then back to the U.S.
• Pray for David and Jamie as they move to Coquitlam, BC (suburb of Vancouver) to be part of the new church plant, The Common Place.
• Continue to pray for those who serve in Mali. They have re-entered their country and now await things settling down before resuming full-scale ministry.

Faced with a dilemma: which way to go?
