Anxious Reunions
I attended my college reunion last weekend. Psychologist Joyce Brothers says, “Ninety-nine and nine-tenths of people have some anxiety about going to a reunion. The rest are people who are so secure and have done so well they have no intention of going back.” I guess I fit the majority.
There are several things you ought not to say at a reunion:
• What happened to you?
• I thought you were dead.
• Didn’t you date my wife?
• Is that your husband or your son?
• Working yet?
• Can I borrow a couple of dollars?
“Reunion” is not in the Bible as a word, but it is as a concept. Paul told the believers in Rome, “I long to see you” (Rom. 1:11) and told the believers in Philippi, “God is my witness, how greatly I long for you” (Phil 1:8). It is good to re-unite with friends we have not seen in awhile. Thankfully God occasionally allows for reunions in our lives. Of course there is coming a wonderful heavenly reunion. Until then, we’ll have to settle for anxiety-filled earthly reunions. Why not make contact this week with an old friend you’ve not communicated with in awhile.
Continued apologies. Our web site – www.discipleallnations.org – is still down.
I invite you to join be in remembering these global concerns:
• Pray for Scripture Use Seminars to be held in Cameroon in November in preparation for the arrival of the first New Testaments for Nomaande speakers.
• Pray for Pastor Andre as he speaks on Monday, October 6 to the Vancouver Russian Business Club Round Table on his “business” – the church.
• Pray for Joe as visits and ministers in the Republic of Georgia on Thursday. October 9. He will be in Gori (the city where Russia was bombing).
• Missionaries request that we pray for Japan and the new leadership in the government. A new prime minister and cabinet will begin leading this month and need wisdom and direction from the Lord of lords.
