Wait to Worry

Like many of you I lost money in the last few weeks as the stock market dropped. To be quite honest, I lost a lot of retirement money. In fact, I lost so much, I may need to un-retire. In the midst of my depression, God gave me a passage of scripture from the Sermon on the Mount. Actually, I am presently preaching through this sermon of our Lord and I was working on this text. “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble” (Matthew 6:34) I remembered the advice of a friend in a similar concern in past years. He simply said to me, “Wait to worry!” That’s the short version of what Jesus said. After all, worry does not lessen tomorrow’s troubles; it only lessens today’s energy. Whether you lost money recently or face some other concern, you’re welcome to claim this passage with me and join me in waiting to worry.

Pray with me for the following global concerns:
• Pray for missionary friends who are developing new evangelism and discipleship materials for use in southern Thailand.
• For missionaries in Thessaloniki, Greece, as they make progress in language study and for boldness to use it to share the gospel.
• For a missionary friend from Spain who continues to recover from cancer.
• For the park ministry in Brno, Czech Republic and that God would prepare a place for them to meet during the winter months.
