Rumors and Angels

“So live that when the rumors begin, no one will believe them.” I said that to every class of students I had in my teaching career. In recent days I have seen the truth of that affirmed again. Few of us will avoid being the subject of rumors. We must remember that ultimately it is less important what people say about us than what people believe about us. However people do talk and words do damage and some people will believe anything. In the secular world, one is innocent until proven guilty. Often times in the religious world, one is guilty until proven innocent – unless you have friends who simply refuse to believe the rumors. So what do you do when you are the subject of rumors, half-truths, falsehoods, slander? When Jesus was bring falsely accused, He told Peter to put away his sword because the Father would provide “twelve legions of angels” (Matthew 26:53) for protection. You might ask the Father if he could spare maybe half a legion of angels for you.
