Servanthood and the Lack Thereof

Every so often I run across a Christian leader who has lost the concept of servanthood. I try to picture this person taking a bowl of water and a towel and washing someone’s feet. That’s what Jesus did to demonstrate His servanthood (John 13:4-5). Most of the time, my mental image does not work. Some people are just not servants. Servanthood is downward mobility in an upward mobility world. Servanthood is a “me last” concept in a “me first” culture. Servanthood is “I’ve got to be like Jesus” in an “I’ve got to be me” society. When servanthood is divorced from leadership, you get selfishness. When servanthood is divorced from divine calling, you get human busy-work. When servanthood is divorced from ministry, you get . . . well, I think I’ll let you fill in that blank. Hint: It’s a substitute for washing dirty feet and cleaning up messy lives.

Join me in remembering these global concerns:
• Pray for the possible beginning a Messianic congregation among Russian Jews.
• Pray for All Nations Community Church in Vancouver. As they continue to grow they need a worship leader, children and youth workers.
• Pray for a construction crew willing to go to the Republic of Georgia.
• Give thanks with Suzanne that her extended visa was granted and she can remain in Canada.
• Pray for plans to distribute 1000 copies of the first ever Nomaande translation of the New Testament in Cameroon, West Africa.
• Pray for the Celebrate Recovery group that meets each Thursday at Christian Life Church in Kharkov, Ukraine.
