Home: Place or People?
My parents moved to another city the morning after I graduated from High School. During my college days, when my friends went “home” it was to a place. For me, going “home” was to a place I’d never been before. Going “home” was going to people. I’ve reached the age where a significant number of my long-time friends are going to their heavenly home. Each day the obituary columns of my newspaper carry pictures of people my age. I know heaven is a place. Jesus said it was in John 14:2. I also know that when folks arrive in that heavenly home they are overwhelmed by the beauty of the place. I’m wondering if they are not just as thrilled by the reunion with people. I guess my age is showing through in this Monday Morning Memo and my apologies to my younger readers, but I’m beginning to get a little homesick – not just for a place I’ve never been before, but for people I miss.
By the way, the web site is back up and functional. In fact, one of my earlier books, DiscipleShape: Twelve Weeks to Spiritual Fitness (now out of print) is available here for FREE to be read and/or used in small groups.
I think I’ll leave the global prayer requests off this week to see if anyone misses them enough to want them returned to the Monday Morning Memo.
