Legion
I never got into the “Roots” popularity of the 70s – the idea of tracing one’s heritage to places of influence. I never lived anywhere long enough for a place to influence me. My father was a Pastor who assisted with the short average tenure of ministers. We changed churches around every four to five years. In every church but one, the parsonage was re-located during our tenure, causing me to switch school systems. I attended eight schools in twelve years prior to college. My roots were in people, not places. Yet, everywhere we lived, there were those who impacted my life – family members, Sunday School teachers, Royal Ambassador leaders, school teachers, youth ministers, coaches, professors, collegiate ministers, role models, friends, and colleagues. One day Jesus met a troubled man. “He asked him, ‘What is your name?’ And he answered, saying, ‘My name is Legion; for we are many’” (Mark 5:9). The name of people who have impacted my life is “Legion” for they are many. The ones who I need to thank the most are already enjoying their heavenly reward. So, is there anyone you need to thank this week?
Pray with me for the following global concerns:
• Give thanks that on September 8th, the new church start in Brno, Czech Republic had their very first baptisms!
• Pray for Steve in Cambodia. On Monday-Wednesday of this week, he will have the 6-8 hours of Comprehensive Exams for his PhD.
• Pray for Ken and Kathy as they lead a new Bible Study in Sydney, Australia this month.
• September 11 is National Day, La Diada, in Catlonia, Spain. Those who minister there invite us to join them on that day for their national day of prayer. There are about 7.6 million people living in Catalonia and, only a fifth of 1% are new born creatures in Christ!
