Winning Over Worry

In the great classroom of life, I make an “A” in anxiety.  I worry well and if I do say so myself, I am rather good at it.  I know the Bible says, “Be anxious for nothing , . . . “ but, one can’t live up to every verse, so I have to let this verse, in Philippians 4:6 slide.  Let someone else preach on this verse. Not me.  I would worry too much about that sermon.  I’m sure the great preachers could do, so since they probably never worry about anything. The well-known British preacher, Charles Haddon Spurgeon, who obviously never worried about anything including his body weight, said, “Anxiety does not empty tomorrow of it sorrows, but only empties today of its strength.”  The other day, I saw a quote that another writer had written that really got my attention.   I’m not sure I remember the exact words, but a close paraphrase would be, “what you still worry about is what you have not yet surrendered to God.”  Ouch!  So, I’m going to try hard to stop worrying about things.  Who knows, I might even prepare a sermon on Philippians 4:6.
