Changes

When I was a teen-ager on the school basketball team, we called them “stone bruises” and we got them by jumping up and landing on our heel.  As I remember, we taped them and kept playing.  I am obviously no longer a teen-ager, and I no longer play basketball, and the same injury is now called “planter fasciitis” and I have it again.  By the way, tape no longer works.  These days, it takes exercise, inserts, massage, and a steroid shot.  The bigger picture is that things change.  I could bore you with what else has changed in the last sixty years, but most of you know or you are beginning to know.  Here are a few quotes on change:

  • There is nothing permanent except change.” Heraclitus.
  • “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.” Reinhold Niebuhr.
  • “He who rejects change is the architect of decay. The only human institution which rejects progress is the cemetery.” Harold Wilson
  • “When the winds of change blow, some people build walls and others build windmills.” Chinese proverb.
  • “The times, they are a-changin”  Bob Dylan
  • “My son, fear the Lordand the king; do not associate with those given to change.” Proverbs 24:21.
