Unknown and Known

Today is Monday, June 1. In a couple of days, radio stations will blast out a song from 1967, “It’s the third of June, another sleepily, dusty Delta day . . .” And thousands of persons will once again try to figure out what Billie Joe MacAllister was throwing “off the Tallahatchie Bridge.” While it is fun to explore the unknown, it is better to rest in the known, such as who is Jesus (“The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” John 1:29. “This is Jesus the King of the Jews” Matthew 27:37) Did He really die on a cross? (‘The Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” Revelation 13:8. “They crucified Him.”. Matthew 27:35). Did he really rise again from the dead (“He is not here. He is risen.” Luke 24:6. “Whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it.” Acts 2:24). Is He really coming again? (“ For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God.” I Thessalonians 4:16. “I am going away and coming back to you.” John 14:28). I may never know what was thrown off the Tallahatchie Bridge, but, the Bible being true, these things I know.
