A Two for One Marriage

Last week my wife and I celebrated our sixty-second wedding anniversary.  On a dinner date sometime before our wedding, I learned something about my wife-to-be. As I went to pay the bill, she produced a two-for-one coupon. What a great idea. That idea would surface again during our wedding when Martha Fannin sang the prayer and substituted a word – “Wherever He Leads WE’LL Go.”  In a totally different application, she was singing “two for One.” We were committing our marriage to following God’s will together. Either both traveling or one traveling while the other stayed home to pray, we have traveled for Him, and ministered in every state, each Canadian Province, and fifty-nine countries.  We’ve served two churches as pastor and thirty as Interim Pastor.  We served as Campus Minister on three university campuses. For three and a half years, we traveled North America as an Evangelism Consultant with the Home (now North American) Mission Board. We served on a Seminary faculty for twenty-two years with Joanne ministering among wives of international students. Two did what one would have struggled to do alone. One did with two what two couldn’t do. Yes, like others, thousands of years ago, “We sought to go . . . concluding that the Lord had called us. . .” (Acts 16:10)
